The Birmingham and District Invitation Cross Country League was formed back in 1925 when a few Birmingham based athletics worthies resolved to form a local cross country league with Birmingham based Clubs. From its small beginnings with just 6 Clubs, it has now grown considerably to a strength of four divisions and over 50 Clubs all from the Birmingham area, the central Midlands and beyond. The League actively encourages and promotes the sport of cross country running and enjoys the excellent reputation of being one of the most competitive and high quality cross country leagues in the Country.
The highlight of the League's year is invariably the Birmingham Cross Challenge at the end of October/beginning of November every year where not only do the four divisions of the League come together and compete but there are additional cross country races for Ladies and the younger age groups..
These photographs (courtesy of Brian Smith, Dudley Kingswinford) show the toughness and variety of the course offered by Senneleys Park in Birmingham. The runners hate it so much they always come back for more !
