Phil Anderson from B&R has been in touch to pay tribute to Len Quartly, their men's cross country team manager. Phil fills us in on Len:-

"He is still an active athlete competing on the track in the Midland Veterans League (all the way from 100m to the middle distance runs and the walk in the V70 category and dropping down the age groups when needed). As well as managing our XC team he runs for us in the League in extremis – he admits that he is always nervous when only 5 or 11 of our runners have arrived as he may have to run to complete a team and he has probably eaten lunch! He had a successful 2013, setting new club V70 records for the half marathon and the marathon (4.36.28 at London) to add to his various track & field records (including 100m, 3000m and high jump). Of course he is famous for his post-race flapjakes and crucially brings the club tent – he had to sacrifice his run in the League fixture at Aldersley in 2011 to prevent the tent being blown across Staffordshire by the high winds."
