Whilst recently researching aspects of the League we came across a newspaper cutting in the Tipton Herald of 20/01/1967. The report of the Division 3 fixture at Stoke on Trent highights a victory for a well known coach and cross country enthusiast who will be very familiar to many in the League today. It also sheds light on some of the fragmented family tree behind one the League's current club's - but do you know which one?

"Warley Runners Make It A Double

Warley teams swept all before them in the Birmingham Cross-Country League third division race at Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday. Both senior and youth teams are now assured of moving into the second division.

The Warley Athletic Club formed by the amalgamation of Smethwick Harriers and Oldbury A C have been most successful in this seasons league races. Both seniors and juniors have won all races held so far.

Well In Front

Bernard Baldaro, the senior Warley star, overcame the heavy conditions on the course to finish well in front of the other competitors. He was almost 60 seconds ahead of the rest of the leaders.

Teammate T Philpott's, came in fourth after dropping from third to 11th position because of a fall halfway through the race. It was even better for the Warley club in the youths race, their athletes filling the first three positions."
