We sadly have to report the news of the death of Tom McCook, aged 69, of Birchfield Harriers. Tom was a regular correspondent on athletics for the Birmingham & Midlands area. It was often his reports on League races that graced the pages of AW.

He was passionate about athletics and its' role in life, and was himself a great ambassador for our sport.

As well as his proud enthusiasm for his beloved Birchfield Harriers he was also a keen promoter and chronicler of the history and characters of athletics.

One of the true gentlemen of the sport and one that will be greatly missed around the venues in the Midlands in years to come.

Our condolences to his family and friends.

****** Update 07/03/2016 ******

Tom's funeral will be held on Wednesday 23rd March, 2016 at Saint John the Evangelist Church, Church Lane, Perry Barr, Birmingham at 12.30 P.M. There will be a short private committal at the Crematorium afterwards just for family. The wake will be held at the Alexander Stadium in the Birchfield Harriers Clubroom.

It is suggested that if you want to attend the church, park at the club or in Perry Barr Park and walk over please to avoid congestion of traffic.

Family flowers only please. Donations will be collected for Colitus research and a fund is to be set up in Tom's name to provide under privileged children at Birchfield with running shoes and spikes.

The family ask that attendees do not wear black. They suggest tartan, something colourful or your club tracksuit top. They wish to celebrate the extraordinary life of Tom McCook as best we can.
