League Landmarks (10/03/2013)

Mick Edwards has provided some more biographical information on his athetic career and outlines his hopes of attaining 150+ Birmingham & District XC League race finishes.

I joined Sparkhill Harriers in June 1965 and have been with them for 47 years this June, I am now a life member, as well as cross country I have competed on the road, track and field . Some of my best achievements during my athletic career have been :-

  • Competing in the London Marathon in 1985 (my time was 2hrs 31mins 48secs, overall position 203 and for my age group 170th)
  • Finished 2nd overall and 1st Vet in the Torquay 10k in 1988.
  • Won the Midland Vets XC champs in 1988 & 1989.
  • Finished 7th in the British Vets XC champs in Sunderland in 1988 and in the same year I won the Midland Vets 10k road champs
  • Competed in the British League and GRE Cup competitions on the track.

I am now 65years of age and I hope to complete my 150th league race in the 2017/18 season, my best positions in the leagues are 47th D1, 20th D2, and 6th D3. The league provides a good level of competition in any division and is something I have always looked forward to and have enjoyed through the years. I have now been retired for 3 months training is going well and i am looking forward to competing in the Midland Masters track & field league in the summer.

He also includes some photographic evidence of his long career beginning with the 1966 National at Graves Park Sheffield.
