Stalwart - Cheltenham & County (10/12/2013)

Russell Forsbrook has sent in his contribution on the "management" behind his club's league performances.

"Cheltenham Harriers team manager Andy Prophett has attended every Birmingham League fixture as either an athlete or team manager since the start of the 1992-93 season, making last weekend's fixture his 86th consecutive one.

Having made his Birmingham League debut as a 17 year old in division 2 for Newcastle in the opening fixture of the 1991-2 season, Andy was then an integral part of the Staffs University team that gained promotion from division 5 to division 1 in the four seasons from 1992-96. During his time as a student Andy won the division four junior title and had a highest position of third in division three. He then competed for City of Stoke in division one, achieving his highest individual placing in the top flight of 25th in the second fixture of the 1996-97 season.

Having relocated to Cheltenham Andy ran for the Harriers in division one from the start of 2005-6 and quickly took over the reins of team manager whilst being a key scorer for the club's team. By the end of the 2008-9 season Andy had finished 64 consecutive league races, having not missed a fixture for 16 years. Unfortunately an achilles injury in the summer of 2009 finally brought this sequence to an end and he has yet to appear in the league since, preferring instead to shout his team on at league races and limit any racing he does to the roads in a bid to avoid injury.

Andy is seen in the photograph alongside club stalwart Brian Forsbrook. Brian, a former Hereford runner, who has represented them at county level in both cross country and track has attended the vast majority of league races over the last 20 years and carries out all the race day administration for the team, including lap by lap score counts for the runners !"
